Sun news: Solar activity drops to low levels
📄 Article Content
Sun news for November 16-17, 2025. The dominant region on the sun and lead flare producer is AR4284, which emerged near disk center. Overall flare activity has dropped to low levels. This split view shows the 131 extreme ultraviolet wavelength sun on the left and the visible light sun on the right. The 131 shows the flares and hots coronal loops from the region while the visible light image shows the sunspots that make up the active region. Images via NASA/SDO and jhelioviewer.
Sun news November 17 (UTC): Solar activity drops to low levels
(11 UTC November 16 ? 11 UTC November 17)
Today’s top story: The Sun took a breather during this period, with solar activity dropping to low to moderate levels after the departure of the large, magnetically complex region that recently rotated over the northwest limb. The strongest flare of the period was a C7.5 from AR4284 at 01:23 UTC on November 17 – a modest event that caused no disruptions on Earth. The newly emerged AR4284 in the south-center disk became the main flare producer, generating 14 of the 15 total flares observed. Meanwhile, Earth’s magnetic field remained unsettled to active as solar
