Today’s top story: Sun activity is low overall, but check out this gorgeous prominence in the sun’s northwest. A prominence is a large, bright feature – made of solar plasma and magnetic fields – extending out from the sun’s limb or edge. These features often appear as loops! Some can extend hundreds of thousands of miles into space (many times Earth’s diameter). This one was partially hurling ejecta into space. Meanwhile, overall, the sun has been quiet over the past day. Details below.
