AU PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION IN CHAD AND SOMALIA
The African Union Peace and Security Council announced that it would on Thursday discuss the situation in Chad and Somalia where both governments are being accused of unconstitutionalism. However, it is yet to make public its decision on Chad. Following the death of the president on 20th April, the military in the country decided to make his son General Mahamat Kaka the new leader for a period of 18 months after dissolving the country's constitution. The African Union only recognizes civilian rule and change of government through elections. The African Union would be expected to either suspend Chad from activities of the Union or give it a timeline of days to hand over power to civilians. SABC Coletta Wanjohi reports from Addis Ababa
