Abolishing the cashless debit card will result in "catastrophic consequences" for the communities that need it, Shadow Education Minister Alan Tudge says.

"I'm really angry about this," Mr Tudge told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

"Labor for ideological reasons is going to abandon that card, go back to welfare cash and I think it will have catastrophic consequences in these communities."
